Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. (NLT)
The armies of Babylon were going to surround the nation of Judah. The prophet Isaiah prophesied the destruction of Judah from BC 740 to 700, almost a hundred years before the actual catastrophe was about to unravel in the land of Judah. As prophesied by Isaiah, King Nebuchadnezzar came to Judah between BC 605 to 586. He surrounded the nation and destroyed its most precious possession - the holy temple. He burnt it down and destroyed it completely. All the rich and educated were either captured as slaves and deported to Babylon or killed. The nation was ruined.
Dear friend, are you going through a similar situation in your life too? Is your life ruined today because of the circumstances and the situation? When God saw the destruction that was caused to the nation of Judah, His heart melted. His compassion overflew. He poured out His compassion.
God wants to comfort Us
Isaiah prophesied the words of compassion in the second half of His book from chapter 40. The beautiful and everlasting words of compassion are still applicable today. The timeless words of God can soothe our hearts even today. If someone is tired of life and lost hope all they have to do is start reading from Isaiah Chapter 40.
When we go through the book of Isaiah from chapter 40, we can notice the following words getting repeated many times.
- Fear Not
- I am the Lord
- Prepare the way
The message of compassion prophesied by Isaiah embeds God's everlasting hope for human redemption. The hope that was given to mankind during the troubled times points towards Jesus Christ. The description of the redeemer, his suffering on the cross, and the objective of His ministry flowed along with the comforting words. The hope for mankind was pinned on the coming of Jesus Christ. The book of Isaiah was written seven hundred years before the birth of Christ.
People might say there is no hope in the current situation. All doors are closed. There is no solution. There is nobody to help. Our grief and the loss might seem bigger than the highest mountain on the earth. But the power of the Holy Spirit can comfort our hearts and minds. He can open all the locked doors for us. He can lift up any soul from the unfathomable grief.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
He (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
