What if we are asked to give a speech for a very last time to a group of people we know and we love. I mean the very last time in life. A final opportunity to convey our thoughts to those we love. Will we prepare in a hurry and deliver the speech? I don't think so. We will reflect on the life we lived over many years on earth and prepare a wise last message. We will take a long time to review and rewrite it many times before we deliver it.
I was going through the final speeches of some of the great men. One such man was the prophet, Samuel. It was his time to retire after being a prophet and judge for many years. He concluded his speech like this. Be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. This was his final concluding advice to the entire nation he has governed and prophesied for 40 years. He knew how important it is to fear God for an individual, society and a nation. Hence he chose to add it as a final concluding statement to his final speech.
There was another great man who was the leader of Israelites. He won many battles for them. He restored the land God promised many years ago to his ancestor Abraham. God gave him success over many nations. His name was Joshua. When he became old, he gave a final speech to his fellow countrymen. His message was loud and clear to his fellow countrymen. They should fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness.
Solomon was a great King but he was known for his wisdom. He wrote a book called Ecclesiastes in his old age. The book Ecclesiastes means "The Preacher". Yes, Solomon reflected and researched many aspects of life and decided to write a book in his old age. He enjoyed the wealth, prosperity and honor. When Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes he considered everything as meaningless. He repeated the word meaningless around forty times in his book. His final conclusion of the book was this - "Fear God and keep His commandments".
The words Fear God and follow him, Fear God and Serve Him, Fear God and keep his commandments echoes through the final speeches of these great men. All of their life was not without pain and not without struggles. But they were able to overcome their struggles by fearing God. Bible says the eyes of theLord are on those who fear him. God searches for those who fear Him. Like a son fears for his father and obeys his words, God expects as to fear Him and follow Him.
My Dear friend, how many times have you consulted God before making crucial decisions in life? Are you making him responsible for all the wrong choices made in life? Like the wise men said, Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Many of our life's problems originate from the wrong choices and decisions we have made. Wouldn't our life be better, if only we have the wisdom to make the right choices and avoid wrong consequences? To do that we need wisdom that comes from God. He gives wisdom to those who fear him and willing to follow him, serve him & obey his commandments.
Do you want to fix your life from past troubles? Do you want to avoid future problems in life? Learn to Fear God every day and follow his commandments. He will give his Wisdom to make the right choices in life. You will find comfort and peace in God's guidance. Shall we pray to God?
Dear God, I am so sorry I lived my life on my own terms. Help me to fear you like a son fears his father and lovingly takes his guidance. Forgive my past and restore my future. I have done many mistakes in my past life. Please forgive me and wash me. Guide me, teach me and help me to follow you all my life. Let me follow you with all my heart. In Jesus's name, I pray. Amen.
