When Jesus started His ministry, He chose twelve disciples for his ministry and asked each of them to follow Him. Almost all of Jesus’s disciples were poor fishermen. They were ordinary and uneducated men. They left everything and traveled along with Jesus wherever he went. Jesus did not promise position or money for any of His followers. Instead, He promised a special gift known as eternal life which is everlasting life even after death. His disciples could neither touch nor see the gift of eternal life Jesus promised them. But they kept following Him faithfully.
Does Our Life Continue After Death?
Is eternal life a reality? Where do we go when our life on earth ends? Will our life end on earth or will it continue beyond in another form? This is one of the hardest unresolved questions for mankind. The fear of death and the thought of going to an unknown universe scares every one of us. Those who had a near-death experience (NDE) experienced the continuation of life when their life was briefly terminated. There is a striking similarity in the stories of those who went through NDE. They feel their spirit leave their bodies and come out of it. Some of them saw their own lifeless body below while their spirits started moving towards a tunnel. It provides clear evidence and a glimpse of what is about to happen after death.
How did Jesus explain life after death to His disciples?
After Jesus was crucified and came back to life, he appeared before His disciples and five hundred other men over forty days. He appeared to His disciples many times to show that He is still alive and there is life after death. The doubts about eternal life were resolved when the disciples saw Jesus after His death. Now they could see and touch the reality of life after death with their own eyes. Jesus said I am the living one. I died, but look-I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave. Yes, dear friend, Jesus holds the keys of death and the grave. He can raise you and me and give us eternal life.
The disciples of Jesus traveled thousands of miles passionately to spread the news of the greatest gift of eternal life they have received from Jesus by following Him. They paid a heavy price to spread the good news about eternal life that they saw and received in their life by following Jesus Christ. One of the disciples Thomas even traveled all the way to India to preach the good news about eternal life. He was martyred in Chennai, India two thousand years ago.
Why do we need eternal life?
Every coin has two sides. Every force has an equal and opposite force. Similarly. when there is eternal life there is also eternal death. Jesus gave us the gift of eternal life so that we can escape the punishment of eternal death. He paid the entire price by laying down His own life. He was tortured to death on the cross so that we can receive eternal life completely free.
Jesus is alive today. He has the power to give us eternal life. He has paved the way for us to go to heaven. Dear friend, are you ready to receive this gift? Are you ready to follow Jesus? God is willing to offer you the precious gift free of cost right now. Let’s Pray.
Dear Jesus, You are the source of life. You are the way and the truth to eternal life. I want to receive eternal life. Please forgive my past and wash all my past mistakes. I want to be your child. Make me new. I want to secure my eternal future in you. Thank you Jesus for giving me an assured eternal life and saving me from eternal death. I praise you and give you all the honor.
