How to protect ourselves from the storms of life?

Dear friend, we buy many insurances to protect our life. There is outpatient insurance and inpatient insurance. There are critical illness insurance and term insurance. Why do we have so many insurances in the market? The fear of the future and the unexpected incidents happening around us forces us to take protection under insurance. The God who created us offers very different insurance. Though life on earth will continue to be filled with problems, He promises to take us through the storms by holding our hands.

Jesus said, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

Jesus is making a point of how to protect as we take the perilous journey of life on earth. The key to keeping our lives safe from the storms of life is to listen to Jesus and follow him with all our hearts. How can we do it? How can we build a solid foundation for our life which will not be shaken by our life circumstances? Here are few ways we can do it.

Build the Foundation of Life with the Help of Jesus:

We always strive to be good but end up doing bad. We wanted to control our tongue. But we do the opposite. We are prone to fall into obsessions. Our minds have the potential to get trapped in depression and tossed by anxieties about the future. Apostle Paul says, “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing.

Dear friend, if you want to follow Jesus but continue to backslide, please ask Jesus to help you. He can hold our hands and lead our lives. Jesus will fill our hearts with deep desire and give us a willing spirit to follow Him.

Are you Spiritually Hungry?:

We can eat well when we feel hungry. We can drink lots of water when we are thirsty. If we want to listen to Jesus and follow Him, then our hearts should be spiritually hungry. A heart that is filled with many other desires may not be willing to listen to the word of God. All of us are born with spiritual hunger. It is part of our inherent nature. But during our life, we might have attempted to quench this hunger through various pleasures.

The famous mathematician Pascal said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ.”

Dear friend, Jesus wants to help you today. Will you allow him to pluck those alternate pleasures that have buried our natural spiritual hunger? Jesus said, “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.” All we have to do is to realize how much we need God in our life. Jesus will help us to recreate the hunger in our hearts.

When we get back to the original spiritual hunger, praying to God will not be difficult. Understanding what Jesus wants us to do and applying it in our life will be easy.

Loving Christ for what he has done for us:

We might know a lot about God. Some of us might read the bible every day and attending church regularly. But none of us can follow Jesus without loving him. Jesus said, “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.” The very first commandment Jesus gave for all his followers is this, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

Always remember the good things God has done in our life. Remember all the blessings and thank him always sincerely. King David wrote, “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”

Out of our thankful hearts, let the love for Jesus flow. As we love him more based on what he has done for us on the cross, we would be glad to follow him with all our hearts.

Dear friend, As we follow Jesus with all our hearts, our foundation of life will be laid on the solid rock. The storms may come, wind may blow, the waters may rise, but your life will never be shaken. Shall we pray to Jesus and surrender our life once more to Him?

Please place your hand on your heart and ask Jesus to come into your life. Pray the below prayer along with us. Jesus is with you right now.

Dear Jesus, thank you for teaching me how to lay a firm foundation for my life. I always end up doing what I do not want to do. Please help me. Strengthen me spiritually. I continue to fall for temptations. Please help me to be strong spiritually. Fill my heart with spiritual hunger. Take away all the unwanted desires of my life. Let my heart always thirst for you. Like a dear thirst for water, let my heart thirst for your presence. Help me to love you more. Let me remember the great sacrifice you have done for me. Give me a thankful heart. Let me follow you with all my heart. Please hold me and lead me. In Jesus’s precious name, I pray. Amen.
