Knowing God – He is the God of Glory and He alone is worthy to be glorified.

I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. – Isaiah 42:8

We are so glad to meet you again today on our Journey to Knowing God. Today, we are going to meditate on God’s Glory. He is the God of Glory. He alone is worthy to be praised.

We together learned so many beautiful attributes of God. He desires to reveal himself to us. He wants to have fellowship with humanity. He is the God of compassion, God of love, God of mercygentle and humble God. He is a God of righteousness and holiness. We meditated on what pleases His heart and what He hates. If you have missed any of the topics, you can click the above links and go through them.

God and His Glory

Whenever people seek God, they see His glory in the Old Testament. No one could see God’s face. He revealed Himself through His glory for humanity to see. God told Moses, “You cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.” – Exodus 33:20-23

When People saw the glory of God, it was like a devouring fire. The Bible says, “Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.” – Exodus 24:17

God’s glory was visible in His presence. People witnessed the glory of God. The Bible says, “Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people.” – Leviticus 9:23 ESV.

Prophet Isaiah saw the vision of the Lord high and exalted, seated on the throne. Seraphim were calling one another, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” – Isaiah 6:3 ESV.

God magnifies His glory:

God magnifies His glory so that people can see Him. He needs to be glorified more and more so that humanity can see Him, seek Him, and find Him. Jesus prayed, Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” – John 12:28 ESV

God glorifies his name so that the whole world will know, “He is the Lord”. The Bible says, “I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.” – Exodus 14:4 ESV

God does not like His glory to be misused:

God is very particular that His Glory should not be compared or shared with other Idols or another human God. The Bible says, For my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. – Isaiah 48:11 ESV.

Anyone who compares God’s glory with another object invokes His anger and judgment. The Bible says, “Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves.” – Romans 1:22,23 ESV

A consequence of not glorifying God:

We get the worst punishment from God when He gives up on us. We lose conviction in our hearts and lose our entire purpose of life. Our lives become irreversible. Our hearts will lose their guilty conscience when God gives up on us. The Bible repeats the word “God gave them up” three times in the Romans chapter 1. The reason God gave them up is because they failed to glorify the Lord. The Bible explains the consequence of not glorifying God as follows:

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.” – Romans 1:26,27.

We ought to Glorify God through our Life:

God expects us to glorify His name whenever He delivers us from trouble. The Bible says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” – Psalm 50:15

The wise man Daniel Glorified God when he interpreted the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar. He said, “No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.” – Daniel 1:27. He gave all the glory to God before He interpreted king’s dream.
