Some of you might know the story of Lazarus and the rich man Jesus told. For those who don’t let me give a summary. The story talks about two men. One was rich, but his name was not mentioned (strange but true). The other one was a poor man. His name is mentioned as Lazarus. The poor man had nothing. He was waiting for the scraps and the waste food from the rich man’s house to fill his stomach. His body was filled with sores.
The rich man lived his splendid life in luxury. He had everything in his life to enjoy. Both the rich and the poor man one day died. The rich man ended up in hell. But the poor man ended up in heaven. The story pops some strange questions in our hearts. Is heaven only for poor people? Will all rich people end up in hell? The story of Jesus focuses on the condition of the heart than on the earthly treasures. In fact, it is a story of the poor soul vs the rich soul.
Rich Soul
The rich soul is filled to its brim. It is happy with what it has. It is satisfied with the content with which the soul is already filled. It is proud of its spiritual and social status. It has no space for other things. Hence, it has no hunger for more. Dear Friend, is your heart filled with things that the world can offer? Are you always focusing on how to grow up in the ladder and be successful in life? Whatever you do to try to fill your heart, there will be a space that you will never be able to fulfill.
The great French mathematician Blaise Pascal once said, There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ. The famous invention and immense contribution to mathematics Blaise Pascal made during his lifetime could not quench his soul. It needed something more. Pascal’s search for the fulfillment of his soul led him to a discovery, which changed his life forever. That discovery was about God. Pascal had every opportunity to live the life of a rich man with all the achievements and trophies of the world. But he chose not to.
Poor Soul
The poor soul is empty. It is in tremendous need. The soul could understand its needs. It is not satisfied with all it has. The world and its riches could not fulfill its thirst. It is always hungry and searching for more till it finds the food that can quench its thirst. Jesus said Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Lazarus was a poor soul. His emptiness pushed him to find God, and he ended up in heaven.
Dear Friend, Is your soul empty today? Are you carrying a vacuum in your soul right now? Jesus said, Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Jesus is ready to quench the thirst of your soul today. Are you ready to receive it? God says Whoever drinks the water I (Jesus) give them will never thirst. Your heart will never feel empty when you drink this living water.
God is waiting to fill your life with the living water right now. The living water leads you to eternal life. It offers you a life of peace and confidence amid confusion. It offers the heart equipped with calmness amid fear. It is completely free for you and me since Jesus paid the entire price through His own life on the cross. We can drink the living water free of cost today because of what Jesus has done for you and me. Are you ready to receive it? Please pray the below prayer in your own words. Jesus is listening to you right now.
Dear God, My soul is empty today. I searched and tried to fill my heart with many things. It only leads me to more disappointments than fulfillment. I feel more and more emptiness in my life. I want my soul to be filled with your living water. Forgive my past. Fill me with your peace. Let my soul rejoice. Let my soul enjoy the calmness even though i have many doubts about tomorrow. Let my eyes focus on the unperishable eternal life you have in store for me. Let the living water overflow in my life. In Jesus’s name, I pray.
