Bible Reading - Exodus 33: 12 - 34:7
Most seeks God during difficult times. Few others blame God for their problems in life. Some have a desire to meet Him. Some want to get proof of His existence. Others want to be blessed by Him. But very few want to know who God is, what He likes, what makes Him happy, what is pleasing for His eyes, and what breaks his heart.
One man who wanted to know about God was Moses. God called him as a leader to lead His people (Israelites) from Egypt to the land God has promised(Cannan). Moses was not a wealthy man. He neither had an army nor riches. But God was with Moses and He was totally dependent on God when He lead 600,000 men and their families towards Cannan.
As Moses developed a much closer relationship with God, He wanted to know more about God. The Bible says, One day Moses said to the Lord, ... You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor."
Moses wanted to understand more about God so that He can do what pleases God and enjoy the favor of God.
The Lord did grant his wish. The next day, early in the morning Moses climbed Mount Sinai and waited for the Lord. The Bible says, Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him (Moses) and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin."
God told Moses who He is and what His attributes are. He is the Lord with all the authority. He is gracious, loving, faithful, forgiving, and slow to anger. Anyone who wants to know God has to know God's attributes. As we know more about God's attributes we will know more about God himself. When we know more about God we will understand what makes Him happy, what He likes, how to obey Him more, and what is detestable in His eyes.
The exercise of knowing God is not a knowledge-gathering activity. It is an attempt to alter our attitude to align closer to the attribute of our God. So that we can follow, understand and love God more passionately during our journey on earth.
How many times in our life we have asked Jesus to reveal Himself to us? While we expect God to understand our current situations, problems, and needs, do we ever attempt to understand His heart? Let's make a commitment right now to know more about God and His attributes from today. Let's pray.
Please place your hand on your heart and tell God that you are longing to know about Him. Pray the below prayer in your own words from the bottom of your heart.
Dear Jesus, I have come to your presence with many prayer requests for my needs. I poured out my burdens and disappointments in your presence. I prayed in the past for my healing. But I never really prayed to know more about you. I never waited in your presence to understand your heart. I want to know more about you. I want to grow closer to you. You are my God with whom I am going to spend my eternity. As Moses prayed I want to pray to you. Please teach me your ways so that I may understand you more fully. Let me find favor in you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Dear Friend, Please continue to take time to know more about Jesus. We spend so much time listening to the news, following sports and the latest trends in technology and fashion. Why don't we spend a few minutes every day to know about Jesus? Please take some time to study the word.
