Dear friend, As we go through lockdowns and isolation during this pandemic, many of us go through loneliness. Some are separated from families as visas and travel are restricted. Even some cities restrict the movement of people from other places. Independent of the current situation, how can we avoid loneliness in life?
We humans are not created and designed to live a lonely life. Loneliness can create negative feelings in our minds and could often lead to unnecessary and harmful obsessions. When God created Adam, the first man, He visited Adam every day. They were talking to each other like friends. There was a close relationship between God and man. Then God found that man should not live alone and created a suitable partner. He Created a woman and named her Eve.
How God Designed us?
Dear friend, God created us, and He wants to have a relationship with all of us. God also established the family structure regarding husband, wife, and children. Then there were other extended social circles such as friends and relatives. This core and extended family structure is essential to beat the loneliness of every man. Hence, the vertical relationship with God and a horizontal relationship with our family and friends are essential to human social life.
Loneliness enters our lives when we do not have active horizontal and vertical relationships. Missing either of these relationships can create a vacuum in our hearts. We can’t put importance on one type of relationship and ignore the other.
Out of desperation, we find shortcuts to change God’s design. Few end up seeking virtual long-distance relationships through the Internet. Many predators await on the Internet, looking for socially disconnected people. They can easily identify and target disconnected people to take maximum benefit out of them. Many have lost their money and wealth trusting virtual predators who speak with pseudo-identity.
Others fall back on social tools to keep them engaged. When social engagement becomes the only source of relationship, the happiness of our hearts is often swayed by the number of likes and follows on social tools. But these solutions do very little to beat our loneliness, and mostly, instead of doing good, they create more harm.
How to align back to God’s design?
Dear friend, God designed us to build a social circle. His natural design will remove our loneliness. The way to beat your loneliness is a two-step process: First, Look around you, and second, look above you.
Look around You
The first step is to look around us. Let’s look around our friends circles, family, and office colleagues. How many broken relationships are around us? A relationship takes many years to build but only a few minutes to break. Wrong choice words, tiny pride, and lack of empathy are a few reasons that can break a relationship. As we continue to embark on a journey in life without changing our attitude, we break every relationship that comes near to us. Our friends will maintain distance. In the worst case, our family will move away. Isn’t it because of our selfish choices?
We may think we are born this way. But God can help us change our behavior. He can mend our hearts and remove all the sharp edges of our life. Years of irritation and unending arguments with others can be healed and rectified in the presence of God. Jesus can remove the hurt and the pain. He can give a heart that reconciles with others. Dear friend, are you ready to receive it from Jesus today? It is not a human attribute to forgive and reconcile. It is an attribute of God. He first forgives our past. He died on the cross when we rejected Him. Let us ask Jesus to fill us with His attributes of forgiveness and give us a heart of reconciliation.
When we are ready to let go of our pride and forgive others, God will bring friends and family back into our lives. Let’s look around and count the burnt relationships in our lives. God wants to fix every one of them today. He wants to help us.
Friend, our life is precious. We only have a short time. Let’s cherish it and make the best use of it.
Look Above You
Dear friend, another crucial step to remove loneliness from our life is by looking above at God. How is our relationship with God today? Are we communicating to our God through prayer, and if yes, Is God answering our prayers? Our vertical relationship with God is important to draw the attributes of God and spread them in our horizontal relationship. As we communicate and build a closer relationship with Jesus, we will fill us with His attitude of love, forgiveness, empathy, compassion, and so on. The attitudes of Jesus flow into our horizontal relationship. The failure in a horizontal relationship with people around us is primarily due to a weak relationship with our creator God.
Let’s look above today and ask for forgiveness for our past mistakes. Jesus is our heavenly father. He is waiting for us to return to Him. It does not matter how bad our mistakes are. Jesus is waiting to wash with us and make us new.
Dear friend, when our vertical and horizontal relationships are secured with God and fellow men, we will be able to come out of our loneliness. Shall we pray to Jesus to remove our loneliness? It does not matter where you are right now. Jesus is standing next to you. He wants to listen to your prayers and speak to you right now. Please pray the below prayer in your own words.
Dear Jesus, I come to you today. Please forgive my past mistakes. You know my lonely heart. I want to establish a new relationship with you. I want to be your child. I want to talk to you every day. I want to listen to your voice. Please help me to reconcile with my friends and family. Remove all the hurt and pain from my heart. Give me a heart that forgives and forget all that happened in the past. Remove the feeling of loneliness from my heart. Let me rejoice in your presence. Take away all the negative thoughts from my mind. Jesus, thank you for listening to my prayers. Thank you for changing my life. I praise you and worship you with all my heart.
