What does the Bible say about taking our own life?
Coming back to the question about taking your own life, God created us in His image.
The Bible says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27 NIV.
For God made human beings in his own image. – Genesis 9:6.
Are we talking about destroying a man created in the image of God?
My dear friend, you and I are not just random creations. We are designed meticulously in His image, with lives that hold profound purpose and meaning. We may have veered off course by trying to implement our own plans.
We could have run in the opposite direction or changed lanes during life.
Friend, It does not matter where you are today or what is forcing you to ask this question about ending your life; Jesus wants to speak to you, remove all your burdens, and fill your heart with new hope.
Jesus came to this world to Give us life:
Jesus came to this world and sacrificed his life to give us eternal life.
The Bible says For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life – John 3:16 NLT.
He wants to give us eternal life. God wants us to choose life.
Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. – Deuteronomy 30:19,20 NLT.
As the verse says, we can choose life by loving God, listening to His voice, and holding fast to Him. We can find our life’s purpose in Jesus when we follow Him.
Only the potter who makes the pot knows the purpose of it more than the pot. Only God, who created us, knows how precious, purposeful, and beautiful our life is.
Great heroes went through what you are going through:
You are not alone. Elijah, a great prophet, went through lonely moments. He was so depressed he called upon God to kill him. God dealt with Elijah’s depression by speaking to him personally.
King David was a man after God’s own heart. While running away from Saul, he wrote many Psalms.
Psalm 42 is a great example of what David went through and how he managed it.
The verse below describes his situation.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?” – Psalm 42:3,5
Prophet Jeremiah went through turmoil many times in his life. He came to know people were plotting to kill him. He cried out to God.
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
you make righteous judgments,
and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets.
Let me see your vengeance against them,
for I have committed my cause to you. – Jeremiah 11:20 NLT
Many in the Bible have gone through difficult situations, but they found hope amid a hopeless situation. Instead of looking around, they looked above at God, and they received special comfort and peace from God.
Here are the Bible verses to overcome suicidal thoughts. We hope it will offer hope and strength to your life.
God wants to give you peace:
Dear friend, you might say, well, God created me beautifully, but my life is right now messed up. What can I do? God can mend your life. He loves you. He wants to establish a covenant of blessing in your life.
The Bible says, “For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken, says the Lord, who has mercy on you.” – Isaiah 54:10 NLT.
The God who said the above words does not change. He is not a man who can change his mind. He is not a human to break his covenant. He is an unchanging God. He is the prince of peace.
Jesus said I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. – John 16:33 NLT
Jesus knew that life on earth would not be easy for us. He faced challenges. He went through temptations. Jesus was crucified on the cross for the sake of our sins.
The Lord who created us will be with us all through life. If we allow him, he will lead and guide us.
