Rev. David Wilkerson started his ministry in the streets of New York among drug users in the mid-1950s. There was no medical cure to come out of drugs during that time. Jackie Pullinger who worked among drug users in Hong Kong faced similar challenges in the 1960s. People who are obsessed with drugs believed their life can never be changed. But it was not a challenge for the Holy Spirit. He gave everyone spiritual strength to come out of obsession without any withdrawal symptoms. The Holy Spirit gave life to the spirit and they were born again. The same Holy Spirit who changed the lives of gangsters in New York can change the life of every reader of this message independent of where you are right now. His arms are open and He loves you as you are.
The Bible says that we are dead to spiritual aspects of life from the very beginning of our life. King David wrote, “For I was born a sinner- yes, from the moment my mother conceived me“. We followed our passionate inclinations and desires from the early days. But God chose to raise us from the spiritually dead condition. He gave us life and raised us from death. Life was breathed in us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to come out of the past mistakes and creates a new man within us. We call this a Born again experience. The Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from death gives life to the spiritual man within us and helps us to overcome our past. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, it is impossible for someone to repent and come out of the past life. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to each one of us when he departed from Earth. We are not discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit such as healing, tongues, and prophecy. We are discussing only the Born again experience, in which the Holy Spirit starts to purge our hearts, cleanse our past, and initiates transformation in our attitude within us. Our repentance (complete change in our attitude) comes only through the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit.
We want to live a clean life and we want to follow Christ with all our heart and love Him. But we end up doing the opposite. When we allow the Holy Spirit to function in our life, He will give us the attitude to love Christ and convict us when we meet the temptations in our life. He will give us the strength to resist the temptation when we give control of our life to Him. The restraining power of the Holy Spirit will avoid wrong choices, unnecessary words, anger, and arguments in our life.
The Holy Spirit stays with us during our distress and prays for us when we don’t know what to pray for. He pleads for our cause to the Father. The Bible says, “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” He not only prays for us but also comforts us and counsels us. Even during the most difficult situations, our hearts can be comforted with the help of the Holy Spirit. He removes every vengeance, argument, and bitterness from our hearts and fills the same heart with peace and joy.
Dear Friend, are you trying hard to come out of your past mistakes? Please ask Jesus to forgive your past sins. He will surely forgive your past and send the Holy Spirit into your life. The Holy Spirit will raise a Spiritual man in you and help you come out of the difficult situations you are going through. Allow Him in your life. Give Him the control of your life to change and touch your heart.
Let’s invite the Holy Spirit into our lives and allows Him to change our lives.
Dear Holy Spirit, I need you in my life. Please come into my life. Take control of me. I have hurt you so many times in the past. Please forgive me. I am not able to come out of my past mistakes. Please help me. I need the freedom to come out of my past. I always end up doing what I do not want to do. I want my life to be changed. Please give me the spiritual strength to resist the temptation. Please purify my heart. Help me to repent and flee from all my past. I believe you alone can help me. In Jesus’s mighty name, I pray. Amen
