How to Overcome Fear? How to stop the fear?

Fear comes into our lives in many ways. Some go through fear as the debt amount they have to repay increases every day. Those who go through sickness fear for their future and the uncertainties around their life. There are many fearful situations in our communities, in our everyday job, and in our families.

There are also fears of the unknown. Some get into fear for no reason. They do not know the reason why their heart is going through the fear. Their life is normal, but their heart is fearful. The fear takes away all the joy from our hearts. It makes us weak physically, mentally, and spiritually. Fear reduces our faith in God.

The Bible emphasizes to us not to fear. God says, “Do Not Fear, For I Am With You; Do Not Be Dismayed, For I Am Your God. I Will Strengthen You And Help You; I Will Uphold You With My Righteous Right Hand.

This is the promise from God. He did not just say, “Do not fear” and then left us in the dark. He promised to strengthen our hearts and mind and gave us assurance to help us. Not only that, He will lift us out of the fear with his righteous right hand.

Dear reader, are you going through fear today? Jesus wants to help you. He wants to bring you out of the fear.

Freedom From Fear

How can we receive freedom from fear? God called Isaiah to be a prophet. He gave explicit instructions about fear to Isaiah. The Bible says, “For in this way the Lord spoke to me (Isaiah) with His strong hand [upon me] and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people [behaving as they do], saying, It is the Lord of hosts whom you are to regard as holy and awesome. He shall be your [source of] fear, He shall be your [source of] dread [not man]. Then He shall be a sanctuary [a sacred, indestructible shelter for those who fear and trust Him];

The instruction from God is very clear. God asked Isaiah to fear only Him and not any man or circumstances. If only Isaiah could fear God and follow Him, then he does not need to fear any man or circumstance. God himself promised to protect Isaiah by being an indestructible shelter and sanctuary for him. The same promise that God gave to the prophet Isaiah is valid for us, too. If only we could fear God and follow Him, then we do not have to fear the world. God will lead us.

How to Fear God?

Our God is all-powerful and glorious. Just because Jesus asked us to fear Him does not mean He wants us to become His slaves. He is asking us to fear Him because of who He is and what He has done for us on the cross. All of us went astray. We have sinned. We have made the wrong choices. But Jesus still loved us. He cares for us. He died for us on the cross to take away all our sins so that we can receive our freedom. He purchased our life by giving his life to us. Bible gives detailed guidance on how to fear God.

Holy Fear

The Bible says, “Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.” Our God is a holy God. There is no sin in Him. We should have a deep realization in our hearts of how holy God is, and how much cautious we should be in our life to lead a holy life.

The same holy fear made Joseph run away when the wife of Potiphar invited him to come to bed. Joseph cried out, “How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.” He fled from that place. We need the same holy fear in our life to protect us from committing sin.

Reverent Fear

The Bible says, “Remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.”

Our God is not only a Holy God, but He is also a supreme judge. He is going to judge us all one day when we go to Heaven with no partiality. We should fear him reverently with all the humbleness and obedience because He is a righteous and impartial judge. A reverent fear in God helps us to live a thoughtful life. All our words, actions, and thoughts are going to be judged by Jesus. When we fear God reverently, we will gauge all our actions in our life. We will validate in the presence of God to check whether it is worth taking a wrong turn for the sake of small worldly pleasure or satisfaction, which will cost us a place in heaven.

Fatherly Fear

The Bible says, “You have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.

We were born as sinners. We lived our life as sinners. But one day, Jesus took us in His hands and forgave all our past mistakes. He adopted us as His own child. He became our heavenly father. We should fear Him as a child, fear his father. When we fear Jesus as our father, He will lead us, guide us and help us in the difficulties of our life.

Dear Friend, are you going through fear in your life? Invite Jesus into your life and follow Him fearfully. He is a Holy God. Hence fear Him with holy fear. He is a Judge. So fear him reverently. He is our heavenly father. So fear Him like a child fears the father. God knows how to take care of your life. He wants to remove all the fear from your life. Let’s go to His presence and pray to Him.

Jesus, you are a holy God. We are not worthy of coming close to you. But you came to us. You lived among us. Jesus, we pray to you with the holy fear. Help us live our lives with the holy fear. Jesus, help me fear you reverently. You are a wonderful judge. Help me live my life carefully. Fill me with your reverent fear. I do not want to throw away my life for the small pleasures of life. Jesus, you are my heavenly father. Please come into my life. Be my father. Lead me and guide me. Let me come to you every day for your guidance. I surrender my life to you. I surrender all my fears into your presence. Thank you for releasing me from all my fears. Because you are with me, I do not have to fear tomorrow. I am free from fear because of you, Jesus.
