We celebrate Christmas every year to remember the birth of Jesus. Most of us celebrate Christmas independent of whether we follow Christ or not. Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and the Christmas shopping discounts give a special reason for Christmas. There are parties and celebrations all around. Cards and gifts make the season more colorful. All the celebrations are good but we stopped celebrating the birthday boy (Jesus Christ) and started celebrating between themselves. This brings us to a very essential question: why was Jesus born on earth? Why is this should be a special occasion to be celebrated as Christmas?
Why was Jesus born on the earth?
Jesus came to the world to open the gates of eternal life to everyone who follows Him. If you are hearing this for the first time this concept might sound like a little fairy tale. What is eternal life? Why do I need one? Why should I even worry about eternal life?
Independent of your belief in God, most religions agree human life extends beyond death. Though our physical body stops functioning at a certain point in time, our soul continues to live forever either in heaven or in hell. The Bible calls Heaven eternal life or close association with God and hell eternal death or permanent separation from God.
Many believe heaven or hell is earned by human deeds and virtues. But how many good virtues are enough to erase the past mistakes we have done? How many good deeds will make us qualified and make a right with God, so we can enter God’s presence in Heaven?
Jesus said I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. No amount of good virtue can make us righteous in God’s sight. The penalty of the sins has to be paid in full by somebody to make us right with God. Jesus invited everyone to enter his kingdom of heaven as they are. He offered them forgiveness for the past mistake. He will heal their body and soul. Jesus opened the gates of heaven wide open for all those who will believe in his power to offer them eternal life. For this reason, Jesus came to this world as a baby on a Christmas day many years ago. He healed the sick, preached the way to heaven with authority and compassion.
God’s plan for eternal life
The wages of sin in the spiritual world is eternal death. No good deeds can wipe away and forgive the sins of men. All men who sinned are destined to die and face separation from God in hell. Someone needs to step up and stand for those who sinned and lead them to heaven. Jesus laid down his life and died on the cross for those who had to die so that those who sinned can go to heaven and have eternal life. It was not an accident, a plot, or an emotional decision by Jesus. But a well-thought plan that was designed by God himself. He sacrificed His own Son (Jesus Christ) for the sake of the entire world He created and loved. Through His death, Jesus welcomes everyone and anyone willing to come to him as he is with an honest and humble heart.
Do you want this eternal life? Jesus already paid the price for your past mistakes. He came to the world for this very reason on a Christmas day, so He can lay down his very life for you and me. The gates of heaven are open for anyone who believes him. Are you willing to believe Jesus can forgive your past and take you to heaven?
Dear Friend, let’s celebrate Christmas for its real reason. Christmas is all about Christ and God’s glorious plan to redeem humanity from the shackles of sin. Jesus came to give an invitation to all of us so we can go to heaven. Are you willing to accept His invitation right now? The arms of Jesus are wide open to receive you. Dear Jesus, I am coming to your presence as I am with a humble heart. I have made many mistakes in my life. I am so glad you came for me and died on the cross to forgive my mistakes. I do not want to the same mistakes again. Please forgive my past mistakes. Make me your own child. I want to start a new life today. I want to spend my eternal life in heaven along with you. Thank you and thank you for what you have done for me. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
