Dear friend, Many believe the sins of our lives can be forgiven by donating a large sum of money to a person or a place. Some believe if we can do more good than bad, then the good things we have done will cancel out the bad things in our lives. But Jesus said He has the right to forgive the sins of mankind. Jesus offered the forgiveness of sins free of cost. Have you ever wondered how Jesus could forgive our past mistakes?
The consequence of our sins
We all make many mistakes in our lives, knowingly or unknowingly. We hurt others, use harsh words, and do what we don’t want to do. We want to keep our lives clean but disobey all the moral principles we knew. Dear friend, it is not your problem. It is common to every one of us. King David who lived three thousand years ago cried out, “For I was born a sinner-yes, from the moment my mother conceived me“. We carry the nature of sin in our genes when we are born. It remains in us till we leave.
Every mistake we make has the equivalent and opposite consequences. How much “good” do I have to do to balance the consequences of my sins? How much “good” is enough to equal my “bad”? How much charity is enough to wash my terrible and ugly thoughts? We look for ways to cancel the consequences of our sins and fail miserably. Who can help us?
God – The Loving and Righteous Judge
Sin separated the sinless God from sinful man. God’s heart was broken when He saw the condition of humanity He had created in His own image. As a loving God, He longed to have a close relationship with us. But as a righteous judge, the same God had to punish mankind for their sins.
God loved us so much that he came up with the plan to reconcile humanity with himself. But before the reconciliation, as a righteous judge, He had to punish us for the sins we had committed. As part of this grand plan, He decided to punish His own son, Jesus, for the mistakes we had committed. He placed the sins of humanity on Jesus and punished Him so that we could be sinless. God wanted to do the trial run of His grand plan.
God Called Abraham to Sacrifice His son.
Abraham was a close friend of God. One day, God called Him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. God hates human sacrifice, but he wanted to feel the pain of sacrifice deep inside the heart. While Abraham was walking with a painful heart, God’s heart was bleeding along with Abraham’s. God had to sacrifice His own son, Jesus, in a mountain called Calvary. He stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac at the last minute. But God can not stop the crucifixion of Jesus for the love of humanity. Unless Jesus takes all the wrath and punishment of God, we can not get forgiveness.
How are our sins forgiven by Jesus?
God sent His Son to the world to take the punishment of all mankind. Only humans can take the punishment for their fellow humans. Hence, Jesus had to come in human form. Jesus, the son of God, was born to poor parents and lived an ordinary life. When he reached the age of thirty, he started his ministry. He preached the forgiveness of God, healed the sick, and prayed for everyone. He chose twelve disciplines for Him. John was a close disciple of Jesus Christ. He has spent three years along with Jesus. John wrote His experience of living with Jesus: The Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son (Jesus).
Jesus never showed His authority and power as the son of God. He lived a humble life. Washed the feet of His disciples.
Sinless God Became a Sinner
After spending three years on earth, it was time for Jesus to be crucified. The full punishment of sin descended upon Jesus Christ. The judgment of God well on His own son. Jesus was made a sinful man for the sins of the entire world. The Bible says God made him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
God resurrected Jesus from the dead and took Him to heaven. The resurrection gives greater hope for everyone who believes and follows Jesus. Those who believe in Jesus will not only receive the forgiveness of God but will also be resurrected along with Him to eternal life (heaven). The Bible says For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Thus the sinful man was united with sinless God through Jesus Christ.
God’s grand plan for the redemption of the human soul cost His own son, but He offered it free of cost for all of us. Jesus Christ received the authority to forgive the sins of mankind by paying the price for all the sins through his suffering and death on the cross. He was resurrected from death and is still alive today. He offers His forgiveness to everyone willing to believe and follow Him. The cross is a sign of redemption and hope for the hopeless.
