How to come out of disappointments in life?

None of us likes to go through disappointments. We want to be successful and not a failure. We were taught to achieve big, climb tall and soar high. No one like to be a failure. We want to get a dream job and build a dream home. But despite all our dreams, disappointments are common to all of us. We are going to face it not once, but usually a few times during life. Early in our life, we should know how to come out of disappointments and even how to accept disappointments with serenity. It will help us avoid depressive moments and negative thoughts in our life.

Reason for our disappointments

Many times, we disappoint ourselves with our own choices and decisions. Starting a business without consulting with God could lead to great disappointment when the business leads to a loss. Getting obsessed with habits such as gambling can make our life bitter and debt-ridden. Getting engaged in a live-in relationship with no marriage commitment will lead to disappointment in the relationship. Living a life with no contentment will lead to deep regrets. All the above situations are self-inflicted disappointments. We disappoint ourselves by engaging in activities without thinking about the consequences.

There are times the disappointments in our life are beyond our control. For example, natural disasters, sicknesses, loss of business because of a pandemic, and loss of jobs because of the economic situation. None of these are because of our fault. Despite that, we have to go through it.

How to manage disappointments?

As we have discussed, if our disappointment is self-inflicted by our own decision, then we need to ask God to forgive us, if we need God’s help in our life. We would have to go back to God and reconcile with Him. Let’s search our hearts right now.

God says, “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” God knows our hearts. We can’t hide anything from Him. If we repent and return to Jesus, He will surely forgive us.

Dear Reader, if you are going through such a situation, we welcome you to pray along with us at the end of this message. Jesus is waiting to comfort you and take away all your past hurts.

The God of Heaven tasted the disappointments

Jesus, while living on the earth, was betrayed by his close disciple, Judas. Peter, who was supposed to be the leader of Jesus’s disciples, denied and cursed Him. John, who was leaning on his chest, left Jesus and run away from Him on the very night Jesus was arrested. Roman soldiers flogged Jesus and crucified Him before the very crowd which welcomed Him as king a few days back.

Jesus cried out to the people, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” He tried many times to show them how much He loved them. But they were not willing to understand.

God said, “All day long I have held out my hands “. Very few responded to His call. He is still standing with his open arms. Inviting you and me. Are you ready to respond to His call? He will give you a new heart and deliver your life from all the past disappointments.

How can we avoid disappointment in the future?

The light that shines from the lighthouse never disappoints a sailor. It gives direction and hopes to everyone on the ship, even through stormy nights. Jesus is the light of the world. He is the lighthouse of our journey on earth. Anyone who put his hope in Him will never have to regret it.

Living a life controlled and guided by Jesus avoids unnecessary heart aches. Somebody said that happiness is because of happenings, and that joy comes because of Jesus. The happiness in our life is controlled by what happens around our life. But Jesus can fill our hearts despite the storms around our life. Life on earth will have its own difficulties, but the Lord who created us will lead us through.

The prophet Habakkuk trusted God through all his disappointments. His heart was always filled with joy, independent of the happenings around his life. He wrote, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”

Dear Friend, Jesus can fill your life too with joy and give you a new purpose independent of your past life.
